Some were shocked because even small vendors like tea stall owners or vegetable sellers got these notices. The shopkeepers say it’s unfair. Many of them mix personal and business payments in the same UPI account. So the total amount shown may not reflect their real business earnings. Some notices even demanded huge sums in taxes. This has made many small traders scared of using UPI at all. To protest, traders planned strikes and even a citywide bandh. They want the government to listen to their concerns. Meanwhile, the government is trying to explain that not everyone has to pay tax and that they are just gathering information. Still, the trust is shaken.
