Description: Nepal is facing a very tense time right now. In early September 2025, the government blocked popular social media platforms like Facebook and YouTube. They said the companies did not follow registration rules. But for many young people, this felt like censorship and an attack on their freedom. Soon, thousands of students and young citizens, known as "Gen Z protesters," came to the streets of Kathmandu and other cities. They were angry not only about the ban but also about corruption and lack of jobs. The protests quickly turned violent. On September 8, police opened fire during clashes. At least 19 people were killed and many were injured. Some protesters burned buildings and fought with security forces. The government called in the army, and soldiers were sent to guard the capital. On September 9, the government lifted the ban on social media. Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli also resigned because of the pressure. Still, the protests continued, and many buildings were damaged, including parliament. A curfew was declared, and the army is still trying to bring back calm.
