Episode Title: Donald Trump Filed HUGE Case AGAINST YouTube, Why? #shorts
Produced by: FactTechz
Description: In 2021, after the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, YouTube suspended Donald Trump’s account. The platform argued that his content carried the risk of inciting further violence. Trump responded by suing YouTube, claiming that the suspension was a violation of his rights and an act of political censorship. He positioned the lawsuit as part of a broader fight against what he described as unfair treatment of conservatives on major social media platforms. In September 2025, YouTube agreed to settle the case for about $24.5 million. Most of that money, around $22 million, is directed to a nonprofit called Trust for the National Mall, which is linked to Trump’s plans for a new “White House State Ballroom.” The rest, about $2.5 million, goes to co-plaintiffs who joined the suit, including the American Conservative Union, Naomi Wolf, and others. Importantly, YouTube did not admit any wrongdoing in the settlement, and the deal does not require the company to change its policies or the way its platform operates. This isn’t the first settlement Trump has reached with tech companies. Earlier, he reached similar deals with Meta (Facebook’s parent company) for around $25 million, and with X (formerly Twitter) for about $10 million. His YouTube account had already been restored in 2023, but the settlement brought financial closure to the dispute. The legal basis of Trump’s claim was shaky because the First Amendment generally restricts government censorship, not the actions of private companies like YouTube. Still, the case had strong political weight. By pursuing lawsuits against multiple platforms, Trump aimed to challenge what he described as a culture of silencing conservative voices online. In the end, the settlements seem to reflect more of a pragmatic resolution than a courtroom victory. Subscribe for more educational content and unlock knowledge every day with FactTechz!
