Description: The Hayli Gubbi volcano in Ethiopia erupted suddenly in late November 2025. This volcano had been quiet for thousands of years, so the eruption surprised scientists and local communities. The blast was powerful and sent a large cloud of ash and gases high into the atmosphere. Because the eruption was explosive, the ash rose to very high altitudes where winds are much stronger and travel long distances. After the eruption, strong upper-level winds carried the ash cloud eastward. It first moved over the Red Sea, then across the Arabian Peninsula, and eventually reached parts of India. This ash was not visible to most people at ground level, but it affected the airspace at high altitudes where planes fly. That’s why many flights in western and northern India were diverted, delayed, or cancelled. For India, the main effects were temporary issues with aviation and slight changes in air quality in some regions. The ash plume eventually drifted farther east and weakened as it spread out. Unless there are new eruptions that send more ash into the sky. Subscribe for more educational content and unlock knowledge every day with FactTechz!
