Description: A video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioning the display of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s photograph inside a Delhi police facility has gone viral, triggering political arguments online. The incident occurred when Gandhi accompanied 19-year-old student Sahil Lochab and his mother to seek registration of a First Information Report. Lochab alleged that he was injured by pellets during a student demonstration near Jantar Mantar on July 20. Gandhi and other Congress leaders later staged a lengthy protest near Parliament Street Police Station after the complaint was allegedly not registered promptly. Inside the police facility, Gandhi noticed Shah’s photograph displayed on a wall. Pointing towards it, he asked officials whether Amit Shah was their “in-charge,” whether he personally ran the department and why his photograph had been placed there. The exchange was recorded and widely shared by Congress leaders and social-media accounts. The photograph created debate because Delhi Police operates under the administrative control of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, currently headed by Shah. Supporters of Gandhi argued that police stations should represent public institutions rather than individual political leaders. Critics responded that displaying the photograph of the serving home minister was not unusual, considering the department’s administrative structure. After a sit-in lasting more than six hours, Delhi Police registered an FIR based on Lochab’s complaint against unidentified persons. Gandhi called the registration a first step towards justice, while the BJP accused him of staging political drama and attempting to pressure law-enforcement officials. Subscribe to FactTechz
