The technology has generated considerable discussion among Indian automobile enthusiasts because cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Gurugram regularly witness waterlogging during heavy monsoon rains. Many experts believe that while a floating car may not be practical for mass-market vehicles, Indian manufacturers could adopt several ideas from BYD, including improved battery waterproofing, enhanced electronic sealing, higher water-wading capability, smarter flood detection systems and emergency escape features. These improvements could significantly improve passenger safety during sudden urban flooding. Automobile experts also caution that BYD's floating mode is strictly an emergency survival feature and should never encourage drivers to deliberately enter flooded roads. The company itself advises owners to use the system only during unexpected flood situations, after which the vehicle must undergo a complete inspection at an authorised service centre. As climate change increases the frequency of extreme rainfall across many parts of the world, the discussion is gradually shifting from vehicle performance to passenger survival.
