Gurugram Traffic Police subsequently impounded the two-wheeler. The scooter was stopped during a checking drive at Rajeev Chowk on August 4. What initially appeared to be an ordinary traffic check changed when police examined the vehicle's registration details and discovered the unusually long history of violations. According to reports, 95 of the 96 pending challans had been generated online, largely through CCTV-based enforcement. The violations reportedly included riding without a helmet, driving without valid insurance, an invalid pollution-under-control certificate and other traffic offences. The numbers made the case particularly striking. The scooter itself was reportedly worth below ₹1 lakh, while the accumulated fines were more than ten times its value. Another report identified it as a 2017-model scooter estimated to be worth around ₹50,000. Police officials said the vehicle was impounded according to rules and used the incident to remind motorists that repeatedly ignoring e-challans does not make them disappear. The case also demonstrates how technology-based traffic enforcement is changing policing in Indian cities. With CCTV cameras automatically recording violations and linking them to vehicle registrations, repeated offences can continue accumulating even when a motorist is not physically stopped by police.
