India delivered more than 57 tonnes of medicines, food and other emergency materials. As the operation became more difficult, Nepal also requested specialised foreign assistance for rescuing people believed to be trapped inside hydropower tunnels, locating survivors beneath debris, conducting DNA tests and preserving unidentified bodies. An 11-member Indian technical reconnaissance team was subsequently mobilised for tunnel-rescue work. Nepal’s Foreign Ministry said reports claiming that the country had rejected international assistance entirely were false. It added that further foreign support would be required for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction.
