India’s lower prices are supported by extensive generic-drug manufacturing, lower operating and labour costs, competitive private hospitals and government price controls on selected medicines and devices. The stories illustrate why India attracts medical tourists, but individual experiences cannot by themselves measure the quality or affordability of the entire healthcare system.
