Description: Nagpur Man Uses Chilli Powder to Rob SBI, Arrested Within 30 Minutes A 28-year-old man allegedly threw chilli powder at State Bank of India employees and escaped with ₹4.53 lakh from the bank’s Bhande Plot branch in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The dramatic robbery, captured by CCTV cameras, has attracted widespread attention online. The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. on September 11, when employees were carrying cash retrieved from an ATM into the branch. Police said the accused, identified as Suraj Bhojraj Borkar, had covered his face with a white cloth and was waiting for an opportunity to seize the money. Borkar allegedly threw chilli powder into the employees’ eyes, grabbed the cash and fled. Despite the sudden attack, one bank employee began chasing him and alerted police personnel in the area. Beat marshals and officers from a detection team joined the pursuit. The accused was caught approximately one kilometre from the branch, reportedly within 30 minutes of the robbery. Police recovered the entire stolen amount from him. Preliminary investigation indicated that Borkar had conducted surveillance of the bank before carrying out the robbery. Police said he is a graduate but was unemployed and reportedly facing financial difficulties. Officials are questioning him to determine whether anyone else helped plan or execute the crime. CCTV footage showing the chilli-powder act and the accused fleeing with the cash has since gone viral on social media. Although the unusual method surprised viewers, the rapid arrest and complete recovery of the money prevented the robbery from becoming a major financial loss for the bank. Subscribe to FactTechz
