Description: Indian Railways to Switch Off Mobile Charging Points After 11 PM! New Warning for Train Passengers In a major development affecting millions of train passengers, Indian Railways has directed all railway zones to strictly switch off mobile phone and laptop charging points between 11 PM and 5 AM. The Railway Board issued fresh instructions on October 26, 2026, following a shocking incident in which a passenger's power bank exploded while charging aboard a train in the South Eastern Railway zone, producing smoke and raising serious safety concerns. Under the restriction, passengers will not be able to use train charging sockets for six hours during the night. Charging facilities are expected to resume after 5 AM. However, this is not an entirely new rule. Indian Railways originally introduced the restriction in June 2014 following a major train fire in 2013. The latest directive focuses on stricter enforcement of the existing safety guidelines. Railway authorities have also ordered staff training and surprise inspections to ensure charging points remain switched off during restricted hours without exceptions. The decision aims to prevent electrical short circuits, overheating batteries and potential fire accidents, particularly when passengers leave electronic devices charging unattended while sleeping. Passengers travelling overnight are advised to fully charge their mobile phones, laptops and other essential devices before 11 PM to avoid inconvenience. Indian Railways is prioritizing passenger safety by reinforcing its nighttime charging restrictions. Travellers should now plan their charging schedules carefully before boarding overnight trains.
